Specialized in EU constitutional law and Human Rights, Cecilia Rizcallah is a visiting Professor at the Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles, a guest lecturer at the Université libre de Bruxelles, and a post-doctoral researcher at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research. She is also a re:constitution fellow for the academic year 2020-2021.
Her research interests include EU law, the national and European (EU and ECHR) protection of Human Rights and Belgian Constitutional Law. Cecilia regularly publishes in these fields. Cecilia has notably co-edited the reference book on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in French.
She has been research fellow at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research from 2016 to 2020. Within this framework, she completed a doctoral thesis in European Union law and fundamental rights, under the joint supervision of Prof. S. Van Drooghenbroeck and Prof. E. Bribosia, at the USL-B and ULB. Bribosia. Her thesis is entitled: “The principle of mutual trust in the face of a crisis of values. From postulate to method“. The thesis was defended on 6 March 2020 before a jury composed of Profs. Antoine Bailleux, Emmanuelle Bribosia, Bruno De Witte, Dimitry Kochenov, Sébastien Van Drooghenbroeck, Anne Weyembergh and the Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston. It is now published by Bruylant Editions.
Before that, Cecilia obtained a master degree in public law from the ULB (2015, Magna cum laude) and an LL.M from the College of Europe (2016, Very Good). In 2015 she obtained the Larcier Prize rewarding the Major de Promotion of the law promotion 2014-2015 (that she succeeded Summa Cum Laude) and was granted the Ganshof van der Meersch prize, awarded to students having demonstrated an outstanding quality of work in the fields of public law.
During her studies, Cecilia also did several internships, notably at the Belgian Constitutional Court and in national and international law firms (Linklaters LLP, Nauta Dutilh, Eubelius).
