Julien Debande

Researcher

Julien Debande is a PhD researcher at the Centre for European Law, where he began his doctoral research in October 2025 under the supervision of Chloé Brière. His work focuses on European integration through funding and its effects on the institutional framework of the European Union. He holds an Advanced Master in European Law from the IEE of ULB (2024, magna cum laude) as well as a Master in Law from UCLouvain (2023, magna cum laude).
Beyond academia, Julien has been committed to civic engagement and youth education. He serves on the Community Council of the Belgian Red Cross and also holds responsibilities within the Youth Red Cross, where he is both a board member and an international delegate. Since 2021, he has volunteered as an educator in global citizenship education for Amnesty International and the Belgian Red Cross.
Julien is also actively involved in democratic education through his participation in and organisation of several parliamentary simulations at Belgian, European and international levels. In addition, he is engaged in local public life.
