Thursday December 7th, 2023

From 4-6 December 2023, the Centre for European Law was honoured to host Prof. Zbingiew Lasocik, Professor and Law and Criminology and Director of the Human Trafficking Studies Centre at the University of Warsaw Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. As part of the University of Warsaw Strategic Visits Program, Prof. Lasocik discussed possible opportunities for collaboration on research, exchanges for student and academic staff and (joint) doctoral schools.

His visit allowed for exchanges with colleagues from the Institute of European Studies (Prof. Chloé Brière), Faculty of Political Science and Research Centre of Experience of War (CREG) (Prof. Aude Merlin), Faculty of Law and Criminology (Prof. Vaios Koutroulis and Prof. Damien Scalia) with potential for future interdisciplinary collaboration on topical issues such as new trends in human trafficking, the impact of the displacement of Ukrainian citizens on their security and the possibility of looking towards post-conflict Ukraine and how the international community can be most effective in ensuring the security of Ukrainian citizens.

The visit was curated by Dr. Amy Weatherburn, FNRS-F.R.S post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre who was able to benefit from the presence of Prof. Lasocik during the human trafficking lecture of the Master course on International and European Criminal Law, who contributed his expert insights into the challenges of prosecuting human trafficking.
