Summer Schools

Every year, two international summer schools are organised by the networks connected to the Centre. They take place in early July at the Université libre de Bruxelles.

ECLAN Summer School on the EU Area of Criminal Justice

The Summer School is specifically designed for researchers and students interested in the topic, as well as practitioners, being lawyers, EU or national civil servants working in criminal matters.

The objective of the Summer School is to provide participants with extensive knowledge of EU criminal law. The classes are both theoretical and practical. They are taught by academics, national experts or European officials who deal with these issues on a daily basis.

The video below contains testimonies from participants, and for more information, you can consult the dedicated page on the network’s website.

Odysseus Summer School in European Immigration and Asylum Law

The summer school has trained more than 2000 persons and is well known among employers considering it as an asset for job seekers. The objective is to give the participants a global understanding of the European immigration and asylum policies from a legal perspective, including the latest developments .

In addition to classes, the summer school provides an excellent opportunity to spend an intellectually stimulating time in a group of around one hundred participants specialised in the area of asylum and immigration. The location of the summer school in Brussels creates a unique European environment with participants from different Member States who typically includes PhD and graduate students, researchers, EU and Member State officials, representatives from NGOs and International Organisations, lawyers, judges, social workers, etc. The classes are taught by academics originating from all EU Member States collaborating in the framework of the Odysseus Network, and by high-ranking officials from the European Institutions, particularly the European Commission.

Courses  are in principle taught separately in English AND in French to allow participants to choose between those two languages, with the exception of those given by guest speakers which will be exclusively in English.
