LL.M. in European Law

The Advanced Master in European law (LL.M. in European law) is organised by the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the ULB under the aegis of the ULB Institute of European Studies.

Why choose the ULB LL.M. in European law?

An advanced education at the heart of the European Union

The LL.M. in European law is aimed at students who would like to develop recognised expertise in EU law. The one-year programme provides both theoretical and practical training, allowing students to acquire a broad understanding of the fundamental principles of EU law and a cutting-edge knowledge of current issues, while specialising in areas of particular interest.

The teaching staff is composed of specialists from various legal and professional backgrounds: researchers, lawyers, members of the European institutions (European Commission, Court of Justice of the European Union, etc.). In order to favour a qualitative and interactive approach, admissions to the programme are limited and subject to evaluation by a specialised jury.

Bilingual formation in an international context

In order to emulate the dynamics that characterise European Union, we welcome students from all over Europe and beyond. In addition, our specialised Master’s programme is bilingual in English and French, which means that courses are taught in either language. This is an active choice as both are part of the working languages of the different European institutions.

ULB and IEE: the proximity of excellence

The Master’s degree benefits from the cooperation between the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Institute for European Studies (IEE). Through events and conferences organised by the Institute, the Faculty and the Centre for European Law, students have privileged access to leading experts in the field of EU law.

Professional opportunities

Our advanced Master’s degree gives access to a wide range of professions related to European law and more generally to European integration. Our graduates are represented in law firms and the European institutions, but also in NGOs, politics and academia. Some of them went back over their career paths on the occasion of the ULB year dedicated to the “Europe of Knowledge” in 2018 -2019, and their positions in the European Parliament (Diego Canga Fano), the European Commission (Clara Martínez Alberola), the European External Action Service (Sylvie Estriga) or the Court of Justice of the EU (Christopher Vajda) illustrate the diversity of the professional paths of the Master’s alumni, as well as the recognition of the quality of the training they acquired at ULB.
