Apéros du droit européen: Abuse of dominance in digital markets

On Tuesday 29 March, Alfonso Lamadrid de Pablo, partner in the EU & Competition practice at Garrigues (Brussels), will speak on “Abuse of dominance in Digital Markets” at the Institute of European Studies (ULB) from 18.00 to 20.00.
There a considerable debate regarding how the concept of dominance should be applied and how the boundaries of the concept of abuse under Article 102 TFEU should be defined in digital markets. The digital world raise complex factual, technological, legal and policy issues for the purpose of the application of Article 102 TFEU, as several recent precents before the European Commission and the EU Courts demonstrate. Alfoso, one of the leading lawyers in EU competition law, will share his insights on selected topics relating to abuse of dominance in digital markets.
Alfonso has extensive experience in relation to unilateral conduct investigations by competition authorities and in litigation before the General Court of the European Union and the Court of Justice of the European Union. He is director of the Spanish and European Competition Law Course at Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (Madrid), a visiting professor at the Brussels School of Competition (Brussels), and has lectured at several national and international universities, institutions. He is a regular speaker at competition law conferences. He obtained his law degree from Universidad San Pablo CEU (Madrid). He also obtained a Master in Law (LL.M.) from the College of Europe (Brugge) and another one from Harvard University (USA). Alfonso has published extensively in the field of competition law and is co-director of the specialised blog “Chillin’ Competition”.
