Apéro du droit européen: “Who is smuggler? Rethinking the criminalization of migrant smuggling in light of the principle of European solidarity”

The Centre for European Law is pleased to invite you to thee third “Apéro du droit européen” of the academic year entitled: ” Who is smuggler ? Rethinking the criminalization of migrant smuggling in light of the principle of European solidarity “.

The discussions will focus on issues related to the widespread use of criminal prosecutions against NGOs and individuals who assist migrants for humanitarian purposes. Speakers will be Ms Francesca Cancellaro, who is a defense lawyer in several high-profile criminal proceedings against NGOs in Italy, and Dr Stefano Zirulia from the University of Milan, who recently co-edited a book on the subject. A third speaker will also be present, addressing the different positions taken by the EU institutions on the matter. The debate will be moderated by Angelo Marletta, Postdoctoral Researcher (FNRS), Centre for European Law (ULB).
