Prof. Chiara Armeni Contributes to New Study by Prof. Annalisa Savaresi on Just Transition Litigation

A new study led by Prof. Annalisa Savaresi at the The Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law (University of Eastern Finland) and published in Nature Sustainability highlights a rising trend in legal challenges to climate policies, referred to as just transition litigation. These legal disputes emphasize the importance of balancing climate action with social justice, particularly in how climate policies affect vulnerable communities. The study was co-authored by experts from 16 institutions, including our own Prof. Chiara Armeni.

The paper analyses how legal challenges can protect the rights of marginalized groups, such as Indigenous Peoples and workers, and raises important questions about the distribution of benefits and burdens in the transition to low-carbon societies.

The article calls for more research and data collection to understand these dynamics better, ensuring that future climate policies are both effective and just.
