Lorenzo Grossio

Visiting Researcher

I am a third-year PhD student in Public, European and International Law at the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Université Côte d’Azur. My research project, conducted under the joint supervision of Prof. Antonello Tancredi and Dr Mehdi Mezaguer, focuses on the principle of proportionality of offences and penalties under the law of the EU and the ECHR. More specifically, the thesis aims at assessing whether a holistic understanding of that principle may be theorised between the two

legal systems.

I obtained my Master’s Degree in Law in July 2020 at the University of Turin, with a dissertation deepening the recent evolution of ECJ case-law on fundamental

rights protection under the EAW system and supervised by Prof. Stefano Montaldo.

In addition to EU criminal law, my research interests also cover the Common Security and Defence Policy, with particular emphasis on EU military missions and operations, as well as the right to equal access to social benefits for third country nationals under EU law
