SUMMARY:Apéro du droit européen "The Challenges for the EU Area of Criminal Justice after the elections"
DESCRIPTION:The Conference\nAlmost 20 years ago the Tampere conclusions of the European Council played a significant role in the development of the EU Area of Criminal Justice\, consecrating for instance the application of the principle of mutual recognition in this field. Today is time to take stock of the achievements and gaps in the EU criminal area and to reflect upon its future perspectives. \nThis summer is a timely moment to do so shortly after the 2019 European elections\, which bring a new majority in power within the European Parliament. Reflections on the future perspectives of the EU area of freedom\, security and justice have also been initiated by the heads of States and governments. They started to discuss early May 2019\, the EU strategic programme for 2019 – 2024\, which shall be adopted early June. \nTo discuss the future perspectives of the EU area of Criminal Justice\, the IEE-ULB\, the Centre for European Law and the European Criminal Law Academic Network are conveying an evening conference devoted to this issue. \n  \n  \n  \nThe experts\nKey experts from EU institutions will discuss the perspectives for the EU Area of Criminal Justice\, namely Isabelle Pérignon\, Head of Unit “Procedural Criminal Law” at the European Commission and Emilio de Capitani\, former Head of the Secretariat of the LIBE Committee\, together with Daniel Flore\, expert from the Belgian Ministry of Justice and professor at the University of Liège. The discussion will be moderated by Chloé Brière\, Post-doctoral researcher at the IEE-ULB. \nThis conference is part of the IEE-ECLAN Summer school “The EU Area of Criminal Justice” that will take place the first week of July (1-5 July) at the Institute for European Studies (IEE-ULB). \nPractical Information\nDate: July 3rd\, 2019 \nTime: 18:15 – 19:30 \nPlace: Room Spaak\, Institute for European Studies /Avenue Franklin Roosevelt 39\, Bruxelles \nThe event will be followed by drinks.
